View of Victoria
This is the view of Victoria that Governor Walter Edward Davidson (1859-1923) enjoyed from the grounds of Government House, way back in 1912, a little more than a hundred years.
The New Port
The New Port was opened on Saturday October 6, 1973 by the Governor Sir Bruce Greatbatch (1917-1989) in a ceremony attended by a crowd of about 5,000 people. The New Port was part of the Victoria reclamation project of 1971. The cost of the modern deep water port was R27million. The funds were provided by the British Government under the Capital Aid Development Programme.
