It was among a very colourful and attractive display of different paintings and photographs highlighting our national colours in the grounds of Camion Hall that the winners of the national theme painting and photography competition received their prizes on Friday afternoon.

Launched earlier this year by the national theme steering committee the competition entitled ‘I Love Seychelles’ saw significant participation.

The colours of our national flag, giant tortoises, beaches and environment featured prominently in the works on display.

Maryse Camille clinched the 1st prize in the post secondary category winning herself a cash prize of R10,000 and R3,000 worth of painting materials.

“I was not expecting the prize. One day I just decided to take some photos in the Botanical Gardens. I focused on Seychelles’ beautiful landscape,” a happy Ms Camille said.

In the professional category Sylvio Didon was the winner, securing a cash prize of R20,000 and a return ticket sponsored by Air Seychelles. His painting of our national flag shows different illustrations emerging from each of the different colours.

“I was really taken by surprise as there were many professionals taking part in the competition but I am really happy,” Mr Didon said.

There were also prizes for 2nd and 3rd prize winners, tokens of appreciation and certificates for all those who took part in the competition.

Congratulating all the winners and all those who took part in the competition, the chairperson of the steering committee Minister Idith Alexander said it was testimony of our belief in the potential of our people.

“We truly appreciate your involvement in bringing our country to greater heights through this competition,” she said.

Encouraging artists to continue to derive inspiration from various aspects they love about Seychelles, Minister Alexander noted that this indicates that both the national theme and the competition have generated public interests as the  theme keeps inspiring us to be patriotic.
