The Pointe Larue primary school which was opened on June 21, 1996, is this year 20 years old.

To mark that milestone, a ceremony was organised at the school yesterday morning under the theme ‘Consacrons Notre Ecole a la Vierge’.

Guests at the ceremony included the principal secretary for Early Childhood, Primary and Secondary Education Merida Delcy; the head teacher Anne-Marie Servina, the school council’s chairperson Anne Gédéon, the director of primary schools Cyril Pillay, teachers, parents and students.

The ceremony was officially launched by Mrs Gédéon.

The head teacher stated that the Pointe Larue primary school has become a school full of wonderful history.

“The Pointe Larue school today celebrates its 20th Anniversary. Since its opening we have had four head teachers, including me. We are not a perfect school, but since the opening we have managed to shine academically and in sports. But I hope that the children put more determination and motivation in their work to succeed,” she said.

Mr Pillay added that the Pointe Larue primary school’s 20th Anniversary is a huge achievement for a school.

“Let this 20th Anniversary be a reminder of great accomplishments by the school. It is important that we all work together so that the school can shine more. We need to improve the learning outcome, the students need to be more serious in their studies,” he added.

During the ceremony all the staff who have clocked 20 years of service received a token of appreciation. They are: Gemma Joubert, Darisha Hoareau, Achille Andre, Lisette Tamboo, Monica Zialor, Bernadette Didon and Mirenda Melanie.

The school hosted a whole day of activities comprising praise and worship, poems, testimony by past students and head teachers, and also a tree planting in the afternoon.

Paul Gédéon, a past student, pointed out that the school made him succeed in his education.

“The teacher gave us support, they gave us the energy to go forward, even though we did not have all the necessary tools to perform but at the end we managed to overcome all obstacles,” he said.

A past head teacher, Fatima Agathine, also gave a testimony about the school’s history.
