Omnibus operators bring concerns to government’s attention |24 June 2016

Representatives of the Seychelles Association of Omnibus Operators (SAO) recently met four ministers to discuss matters which are affecting their business and bring their concerns to the attention of the government.

The chairperson of the SAO, Mervin Elizabeth, as well as some other members met the Minister for Finance, Trade and the Blue Economy Jean-Paul Adam, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Transport Joel Morgan, the Minister for Tourism and Culture Alain St Ange and the Minister for Investment, Entrepreneurship Development and Business Innovation Michael Benstrong.

There are at present on Mahé 109 omnibus operators, five on Praslin and three on La Digue.

Before taking their concerns to the ministers, the SAO management committee met four of the five operators on Praslin.

Mr Elizabeth said among the matters they brought to the attention of the ministers were the difficulties they have to access funding to develop their business, competition with SPTC, access to spare parts, road condition, unlicensed bus operators who are also in the business, to name but a few.

Mr Elizabeth said next month they are planning to meet operators on La Digue as well.

The SAO came into force in 2014 and its aim is to rally all operators to better address issues affecting their business.
