Miss Seychelles … Another World 2016 |01 June 2016

Newly crowned beauty queen set to work on project

Seychelles’ new beauty queen, Christine Barbier, is 24 years old and the second child in a family of three brothers and one sister. She lives at Cascade and works at Mason’s Exchange in Victoria. Christine likes to spend time with her family and friends. She attended the Seychelles Tourism Academy at La Misère where she studied tourism and tour guide. She is currently following a course on her own in Financial Management.

Since her crowning as Miss Seychelles … Another World 2016 on Saturday, Christine said she has received mainly positive feedback. The next thing on her agenda is to look for sponsors for her project of building a halfway home for children leaving children’s homes.

Seychelles NATION met Christine at the newspaper’s office where she talked on her involvement in the beauty with a purpose pageant, her crowning and projects planned during her mandate as Miss Seychelles 2016 ... Another World 2016.

Seychelles NATION (SN):  How did you feel when you won the title? What was your reaction?

Christine: I was so happy and emotional when my name was called as the winner of Miss Seychelles … Another World 2016. I am very happy and proud with the win. I am still digesting that winning feel.

SN: What is your plan now?

Christine: I plan to pursue my project to make it a success and also represent Seychelles both nationally and internationally.  My project is to build a half-way home for children living in children’s homes so they can re-integrate into society. As they reach the age of 18 they will have to move in with their biological parents, file for adoption or go in foster care.

SN: What do you think you had more that made you win the title?

Christine: Wewere all equal. All contestants worked hard. But in the end there is always one winner.

SN: Describe a bit the preparation for the competition. How did the contestants get along?

Christine: The build-up to the competition was interesting. All the contestants were very friendly. We forged a very good bond. We helped one another as much as we could. We were like sisters and still are. Even if training was tough at times, we made it as fun as possible in our own ways.

SN: Apart from the Seychelles Tourism Board (STB) projects planned for you with the main one being representing Seychelles at Miss World 2016, are there other plans of your own?

Christine: My immediate programme is to work on my project to make it a success and I am already in contact with sponsors who have expressed interest. Then I will focus in my work.

SN: Congratulations Christine and all the best for the future.
