Man hospitalised after vicious dog attack |30 April 2016

A man suffered injuries which landed him in the intensive care unit of the Seychelles Hospital in the early hours of Wednesday morning after he was viciously attacked by a dog on the public road at Anse Louis.

The police have confirmed that the incident took place and was reported at Anse Boileau police station at 2.20am the same day.

According to the police, the man was attacked and bitten by a dog described as a Rottweiler on the public road at Anse Louis.

They added that the man was found lying on the public road next to the gate of a residence at Anse Louis. The dog which had attached the man was preventing anyone from approaching the injured person who was lying on the ground. Inside the premises were three more dogs – two Rottweiler and a local breed.

The police who responded and proceeded on the scene managed to chase the dogs away.  They saw bite marks across the man’s face and on his neck. The man was rushed to hospital where he underwent surgery and admitted to the intensive care unit. The victim is now in a stable condition and has now been admitted to the D’Offay Ward.

The owner of the dog was arrested the same day, appeared before the court the next day and has been released. The police are still pursuing with their investigation.

Meanwhile, the police would like to warn dog owners that it is their responsibility to exercise control over the animals at all times and to ensure that their dogs are not a danger to the general public and should be confined on their premises.
