Error in latest update of statistics |13 February 2016

In its endeavour to disseminate economic indicators to the general public, and consistent with international best practices, the Central Bank of Seychelles publishes, on a regular basis, statistics for the four main sectors of the economy; namely, external, monetary, fiscal and real.

In the latest update of statistics on its website on February 10, 2016, the Bank wrongly quoted the figures published for government finance, specifically the line “Social programme of Central Government” where the decimal point was wrongly placed for the month of December 2015.  The figure quoted was R820.5 million instead of R82.1 million, consequently, the published figure was 10 times higher than it should have been.  The error was subsequently corrected early Friday morning by which time the incorrect information had already been published in some local newspapers.

The Central Bank regrets any inconvenience caused by this oversight and apologises to all affected parties.
