David Joubert, a champion of the teachers' cause |28 November 2015

This picture is a follow-up of my obituary on the Honourable DAVID JOUBERT which appeared in the Seychelles NATION on Thursday November 26, 2015. As stated in my obituary, Mr Joubert was a champion of the teachers' cause. We see him here in the foreground (left) in the picture in the midst of teachers staging a one-day strike in 1969 to show his solidarity.

When we had Self-Government status in 1970, Mr Joubert was Minister for Housing, Labour and Social Services, covering Education, Medical Services, Social and Community Development and Sports and Youth activities, a vast portfolio, indeed... In June, 1976, after Independence, Mr Joubert became Minister for Tourism and Aviation in the Coalition Government.

He was also at one time the Democratic Party (DP) elected member for Grand Anse Praslin, his homeland.  We also see in the picture the Honourable Karl St. Ange, the Seychelles People’s United Party (SPUP) elected member for La Digue and the Honourable Chamery Chetty, the DP elected member for West Mahe.
