Electoral officers sworn in

Electoral officers who will be in charge of polling stations all over the island for the forthcoming presidential election were sworn in yesterday evening at the headquarters of the Electoral Commission at the National Library in Victoria.

The electoral officers are to ensure the smooth running of the election process.

The swearing in was also an occasion for the chairman of the Electoral Commission Hendrick Gappy and other electoral officials to explain everything that needs to be done in and in the immediate areas of polling stations.

Issues like logistics, voting procedures for people working in essential services, handling of ballot boxes, media coverage and access to and inside polling stations, badges and code of conduct for stakeholders, were also explained.

The 2015 presidential election will take place on December 3, 4 and 5 and six candidates are running for president. They are (in the order that they will appear on the ballot paper) James Michel of Parti Lepep, David Pierre of the Popular Democratic Movement, Patrick Pillay of Lalyans Seselwa, Wavel Ramkalawan of the Seychelles National Party, Alexia Amesbury of the Seychelles Party for Social Justice and Democracy, and independent candidate Philippe Boulle.
