Lions Club teams up with Ministry of Health in kidney screening campaign |26 October 2015
After helping in conducting cataract operations, distributing glasses to children with sight problems and launching the Rotavirus vaccination programme, the Lions Club International has announced that it will also partner with the Ministry of Health in a kidney disease screening campaign.
The campaign, which will be sponsored by telecommunication company Airtel, will involve the testing of every Seychellois over the age of 40, especially those suffering from diabetes and hypertension, in order to permit early detection and prevent dependency on dialysis.
Global membership team leader for Africa Manoj Shah announced the future campaign during a gala dinner at the Eden Bleu Hotel on Friday evening, in the presence of Vice-President Danny Faure, Lions Club second vice-president Naresh Aggarwal and other members of Lions Club International and Lions Club of Seychelles.
Mr Shah said the best way for initiatives of the sort to grow is through public private partnerships (PPPs), which also permit the Lions Club to offer its services to the people.
He expressed the wish that the new partnership creates a real impact on people’s lives and provides social service to the needy.
“Where there is a need there is a Lion. In Seychelles, where there has been a need there has been many Lions,” he said.
Airtel managing director Amadou Dinah has commented that it is a pleasure for his company to sponsor a good initiative and join hands with the Ministry of Health and Lions Club in order to save lives.
The Lions Club has meanwhile announced that its next initiative to be implemented in Seychelles will be the ‘Lion’s Quest’ which is a drug rehabilitation programme for youths.
