Cultural part of IOG enriching, youths say |28 August 2015

A group of six young people who took part in the cultural segment of the 9th Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) held recently in Reunion Island have described their trip as a discovery and the cultural  activities as very enriching.

The six youths are Warren Bibi, Emma Didon, Ashley Herath, Stanio Sally, Demien Mougal and Kelly Mathiot and last week they shared their experience with members of the press in the presence of the outgoing chief executive of the Seychelles National Youth Council (SNYC) Vicky Van Der Westhuizen and youth’s coordinator Rhonda Labrosse.

Mrs Van Der Westhuizen said it was a great opportunity for young people from all the countries taking part in the games to meet, share experience and learn a lot about other cultures and other youths’ way of life.

“The young people all came back winners as well,” Mrs Van Der Westhuizen pointed out.

The cultural programme comprised activities like visits to places of importance like the Piton des Neiges which is a massive shield volcano on Reunion Island among others.

Demien Mougal said they went on an adventure and learn a lot about the environment there.

“We visited the Northern Regional Council in Reunion Island which manages and recycle waste. We managed to learn more about waste management issues that is affecting our planet,” he said.

Stanio Sally talked about the debates they had with other youths. “We learned a lot about sustainable development processes efforts each country is doing and we shared with them what Seychelles is doing in that area as well. We talked about the introduction of wind turbines and solar panels,” he pointed out.
