The Seychelles Karate Federation (SKF) along with the Seychelles Care Clubs Association will be hosting the Seychelles Federation Cup tomorrow, where it will be more than just a competition.

Speaking to Sports Nation, the SKF secretary general, Percy Vidot, said they have started an initiative where students from various schools who have been identified to have disciplinary problems have been placed in karate schools in a bid to make a positive change.

“We have taken this initiative along with the Care Clubs to try and improve the discipline of students with behaviour problem and so far it has been very successful as the parents have expressed their surprise at the progress their children have made,” said Mr Vidot.

He added that the children will also perform in tomorrow’s competition, which will feature seven Karate school competing in the Kata, Kumite and Team Kata events.

There will also be the official presentation of the athletes who will represent Seychelles’ karate team at the upcoming All-Africa Games in Congo, Brazzaville next week.

Meanwhile, the International Karate Federation (IKF) has been fighting hard to try and get the sport into the Olympic Games where they have been garnering support from different places and Mr Vidot has stated that he feels he is almost 80% sure that karate will be part of the 2020 Olympic Games which will be held in Japan.
