Twenty-nine employees who have spent between 10 and 40 dedicated years with the local aviation authority have been recognised and rewarded for their hard work and devotion towards the organisation.

Harold Palmyre from the fire section and Margaret Pragassen from the air traffic control were recognised and rewarded for clocking  40 years with the company since it was known the Directorate of Civil Aviation (DCA).

Altogether 19 employees have clocked between 10 and 25 years of service. Three have clocked 30 while five have been with the company for 35 years.

It was a great cause for celebration as the airport commemorated the 44th anniversary of the landing of the first commercial jet on July 4 and the ceremony this year was a special one as the Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) is also celebrating its 10th anniversary.

The employees received their certificates, tokens of recognition and rewards during a gala evening organised for them by SCAA at the Coral Strand Hotel on Friday evening.

The event was attended by Foreign Affairs and Transport Minister Joel Morgan, principal secretary (PS) for tourism Anne Lafortune, PS for transport Patrick Andre, among other distinguished guests, SCAA management and staff.

Addressing guests at the event Minister Morgan highlighted SCAA’s progress over the past 10 years and its way forward.

“Since its creation in 2005, the company’s growth is reflected in its human resources empowerment and business activities,” he said.

He also pointed out that significant development has been made in many areas where investments have been made to obtain latest equipment promoting safety, security and efficiency.

He said “though there has been substantial improvement in infrastructural development, as we speak, work is still ongoing to build new facilities, and improve on existing ones so as to cater not only for growth in both traffic and passengers, but also to boost the level of service and comfort, and hence creating an environment which enhances the passenger experience”.

For his part, SCAA chief executive Gilbert Faure highlighted the SCAA motto which is to recruit, train and retrain which helps them to recruit not only knowledgeable staff but staff with the right attitude.

Mr Faure also acknowledged the former chief fire officer Marc Brutus who clocked 44 years with the SCAA and four years in government which is 48 years of service in total.

Retired employees, Mr Faure and Minister Morgan also received special mention and rewards on this occasion.
