‘Values for one; Values for all’ - May month dedicated to ‘discipline’ |04 May 2015

Discipline is the value chosen for the month of May under the ‘Values for one, Values for all’ (Valer pour mwan, valer pour nou tou) programme launched by the Seychelles National Youth Council (SNYC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education at the beginning of the year.

This month’s value was launched during a special ceremony at the Seychelles Defence Academy at Ile Perseverance on Thursday afternoon.

Discipline, being one of the values that is of great importance in the defence forces of every country, is a state of order and obedience existing within a command. It involves the ready subordination of the will of the individual for the good of the group.

During the launch ceremony of the value, Second Lieutenant Waren Andre, through a presentation on discipline, led guests to discover and reflect on its importance in the military force, how it is created within a command by instilling a sense of confidence and responsibility in each individual so there is obedience, respect and order which allows the unfaltering functions and operations of the force at all times even in the absence of the commander.

A role play by a group of recruits who is currently undertaking their basic infantry course at the Seychelles Defence Academy gave the audience further understanding of the level of discipline required in the Seychelles Defence Forces (SPDF) and why it is important to adhere to that.

Guests at the ceremony included Lieutenant Colonel Michael Rosette and other officers, as well as key officials of the SNYC.
