Police communiqué - Two men presumed drowned in separate incidents |23 February 2015
Two elderly men are presumed to have drowned in two separate incidents on Saturday, according to the police.
According to a press statement issued yesterday, the body of 66-year-old Seychellois Regis Balthilde was found floating in the sea near the former Casuarina Hotel in the Anse Aux Pins district. The incident was reported at 3.10pm.
The man’s body was seen floating by two men who were sitting on the beach, according to reports.
Mr Balthilde was certified dead upon being transported to the Seychelles Hospital.
The other incident was reported at 2.35pm on Saturday.
The police were informed that a man was having difficulty while swimming at Anse Marie-Louise.
The 63-year-old French national, Gerarld Wilmont, was holidaying in Seychelles together with his wife and a friend.
According to police statement, some people who were nearby helped to remove him from the sea and he was transported to the hospital, but unfortunately it was too late.
Mr Wilmont had arrived in Seychelles on February 4 and was supposed to leave tomorrow (February 24).
Autopsies will be conducted to determine the exact causes of death.
