NDEA arrests off-duty police constable for obstruction of duty |28 January 2015

The police have called for an immediate investigation in a case reported by the NDEA (National Drugs Enforcement Agency) against a police constable whom they said interfered with them during the course of their duty on Saturday afternoon at Les Mamelles.

The NDEA report sent to the office of the Commissioner stated that the off-duty constable tried to obstruct its agents from handcuffing and arresting two of their suspects.

The officer, who is also alleged to have threatened the agents, was eventually arrested and detained.

On his part, the Commissioner of Police Ernest Quatre has said that the police and NDEA have common agenda and it is of paramount importance that we work together in a combined effort to combat crimes especially the drug scourge.

“I will not tolerate any such behaviour by any member of the force who in one way or another try to jeopardise any operations against criminal activities,” said the Commissioner.

“Joint operations between our Vice Intervention Component (Vic) and NDEA have proven to be fruitful so far; we have a sound established working relationship and we want to maintain this,” he added.

Commissioner Quatre said that findings of the investigation will determine appropriate actions in the matter.
