Ex-swimmer happy to have designed Eve Island swimming pool |19 December 2014

She used to just troll up and down the training pool for hours on end, but now she is proud to have been able to design a new state-of-the-art pool – the Eve Island Swimming Pool.

Paula Karydis Confait is the architect behind the eight-lane 25-metre pool and the former national team swimmer has said she is proud of this achievement.

“I’m proud to have been able to take part in something good which will serve the whole community on Praslin.

I also thank the engineers for their guidance and patience. It’s a nice pool and when I designed it I always thought of myself swimming in the 50-metre pool on Mahe,” said Karydis Confait.

The pool which is of Fédération internationale de Natation (Fina) standards and can host international short course competitions was officially opened last Saturday by President James Michel and Vijay Patel of Vijay Construction Pty Ltd who made a contribution of R5 million – one third of the total sum of R15 million – towards the project.

The government of Seychelles made a R10 million contribution towards project which started on November 11, 2013 with the laying of the foundation stone.

Although the pool is ready to be used, the electronic timing system is yet to be installed along with the touch pads.

Seychelles can now host both short and long course international competitions – the former on Praslin and the latter on Mahe.
