Ports authority celebrates 10th anniversary |21 October 2014

The Seychelles Ports Authority (SPA) is this year celebrating ten years of existence since it was formed in 2004.

A ceremony was held on Saturday at the SPA’s offices at the New Port to mark the occasion.

Gracing the event with their presence were Vice-President Danny Faure, Minister for Home Affairs and Transport Joel Morgan, Chief of Defence Forces Brigadier Leopold Payet, chairman of the SPA board Conrad Benoiton, SPA’s chief executive Lieutenant Colonel Andre Ciseau and other invitees.

During the ceremony Lt Col.Ciseau presented Vice-President Faure, Minister Morgan and Mr Benoiton with a shield as a token, as well as the SPA’s business development and strategic plans.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Morgan said he is optimistic of the future of the SPA as it continues to evolve and change to meet the demands and expectations of its shareholder and to whom it provide its services.

“I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the SPA for its success and wish it all the best for a bright future,” said Minister Morgan.

Also during the ceremony Vice-President Faure, Minister Morgan and other representatives cut the SPA’s anniversary cake.

“To build an authority in ten years is not enough time, but for the past ten years we have grown in building the human resource capacity and we are proud to have a 100% Seychellois work force. SPA is an authority that stands on its own and over the years we have seen the port change to a commercial one,” Lt Col. Ciseau told the press.

“We have some major plans to extend the ports and we are now going to build a cargo shed on Praslin so that the Praslin residents can go about their business in comfort,” added Lt Col. Ciseau.
