Assembly to consider two bills |30 September 2014

The National Assembly will proceed with the second reading of two bills this week. The Minister for Finance, Trade and Investment, Pierre Laporte, will present the Supplementary Appropriation Bill, 2014 to the House, which calls for the approval of supplementary estimates in excess of the approved national budget.

The Probation of Offenders (Amendment) Bill, 2014, will be presented by the Minister for Social Affairs, Community Development and Sports, Vincent Meriton.

The amendment bill, if approved, would allow Juvenile Courts to make probation and the newly introduced community service orders. It will also provide for the institution of probation committees to review the work of probation officers.

Additionally, the Leader of Government Business will call upon the House to approve the Presidential appointments of Derick Cesar Alexandre Ally and Thomas Selby Pillay as ambassadors.
