Environment ministry enhances learning through donation |19 September 2014

To celebrate ozone day on September 16, the Ministry of Environment and Energy made a donation of refrigeration equipment to the Seychelles Institute of Technology (SIT).

The donation amounts to over R1 million and the presentation ceremony was part of activities organised to mark ozone day under the theme ‘Protection of the Ozone Layer: The mission goes on’.

It was the special advisor in the Ministry of Education Alex Souffe who signed the document of acceptance alongside environment principal secretary Wills Agricole and Inese Chang -Waye of the ozone unit in the presence of staff, students and those who took part in a training programme in refrigeration.

There were performances by students and those who took part in the five-day course received their certificate of attendance from the Mr Agricole.

“This is not the first donation the Ministry of Environment and Energy has given to the school. I have personally been here before. The Ministry of Environment and Energy through its ozone unit has always had an excellent relationship with the SIT. We hope that the new equipment will help ease learning and that the number of Seychellois refrigeration technicians increases,” Mr Agricole said.

Thanking the Ministry of Environment and Energy, SIT director Hubert Barbé said: “I would like to thank the ministry for such a significant amount of equipment it has given to the school. We are grateful to the Ministry of Environment and Energy and we are hopeful that our refrigeration programme will upgrade to Advance Diploma certificate.”

After the presentation the guests could view an exhibition of the equipment donated and photographs of students during the learning process.
