This week in the National Assembly - Minister Laporte to answer 10 questions |16 September 2014

Finance, Trade and Investment Minister Pierre Laporte will be present in today’s National Assembly’s second sitting for the term to answer 10 questions.

The questions relate to the following: the benefits of Seychelles’ accession to the World Trade Organisation; longer grace periods and simpler application procedures for loans granted to small businesses; measures to reduce corruption in the country; the appropriate course of action to be taken by the unsatisfied consumer paying for a service not delivered by a telecommunication company; institutional measures to ensure that the progress achieved with the 2008 macro-economic programme is not compromised and finally information on the Performance-Based Budgeting Programme (PPBB) pilot project.

One public bill has been tabled for this sitting: the Radiation Safety and Security Bill, 2014. It regulates the peaceful use of ionising radiation (from radioactive and nuclear materials) and creates a competent authority to ensure conformance with the statute.

The bill will be presented by the Minister for Labour and Human Resource Development, Idith Alexander.
Additionally, Honourable Herbert Hoareau, representative of the St Louis district, will present a motion to the House, requesting for the executive to reconsider the level of logistical support and quantity of resources provided to the Seychelles National Drug Enforcement Agency (NDEA) in its fight against the unremitting drug trafficking problem.
