Seychelles students excel in international artwork contest |27 August 2014

Two students from post-secondary institutions in Seychelles have been awarded top positions in their category (above 15 years) in an international artwork competition.

The contest was organised by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic IOC Sub Commission for Africa and the Adjacent Island States.

The two students are Angela Hoareau from the School of Visual Arts and Lisette Roseline from the Seychelles Tourism Academy.

Angela's winning artwork is entitled ‘We are inseparable’ and Lisette’s one is entitled ‘Living sustainably with the ocean’.

The third prize went to a Mauritian girl called Keshni Soorkia from Windsor Girl’s College.

The theme for the international artwork competition was ‘Living together with the Ocean’, which marked this year’s World Ocean Day and the 1st African Day of Seas and Oceans (announced by Unesco on July 25, 2014).

The artwork competition provided young people all around the world the opportunity to express their experiences or aspirations of a sustainable partnership between people and the ocean.

Lisette and Angela, accompanied by a teacher, will be travelling to Nairobi, Kenya from October 8-10, 2014 to receive their prizes and also meet oceanographers and researchers from all over Africa for the third session of the IOC-Sub Commission for Africa and the Adjacent Island States.

The three participants from Seychelles will also have the opportunity to listen to ongoing discussions on ocean related issues.
