Miss Regatta pageant is back! |22 August 2014

After being absent on the Regatta agenda for three years, the Miss Regatta pageant is back with a difference that will surely please fans.

This year, the Miss Regatta pageant will be held jointly with the Mr Regatta contest on September 23 at the International Conference Centre (ICCS).

The announcement was made at a press conference by Vincent Lee Kim Koon, president of Round Table Seychelles, the organisers of the regatta event.

The press meet, held at the International Conference Centre (ICCS) on Wednesday, was also attended by Terry Carolla, the mastermind behind the pageant, Shantilal Dhanjee, chairperson of Round Table Seychelles and Regis Delorie, chairperson of the Seychelles Body Building Association.

Ten contestants have confirmed their involvement in the Miss Regatta 2014 pageant: Ruth Bonte, Simone Sauzier, Verona Leon, Ginnie Bibi, Jasmine Ghislain, Berrina Saunders, Shamla Mangroo, Joanna Pouponeau, Tracy Adela and Yanny Isaac.

There will be around 10 to 12 bodybuilders who will be taking part in the junior and senior categories of this contest.

The criteria for taking part in the Miss Regatta pageant are that contestants should be between 18 and 35 years old and they can even be mothers. In the past only girls who don’t have children were eligible to take part. Contestants should also possess a good personality that could stand them in good stead as the future ambassador for the Round Table Seychelles.

Apart from the girl who will win the Miss Regatta title and her two princesses, the contestant with the best evening gown and best project will also be rewarded. There will also be a People’s Choice award, among other prizes.

There will be two jury panels that will be judging the Mr & Miss Regatta respectively.

And the two winners will be ambassadors for the Round Table Seychelles, said Mr Lee Kim Koon.

The event, which will start at 7pm, will last for two hours. Tickets will cost R500.

According to Mr Lee Kim Koon money raised at this year’s Regatta, including the Mr and Miss Regatta event, will be used to support the Ministry of Health’s capacity in caring for people with cancer.

“We will also contribute to the refurbishment of the labour room at the Seychelles Hospital,” Mr Lee Kim Koon added.

Mr Dhanjee said in view of the fact that the Round Table has been hosting the Regatta for the past 40 years at Beau Vallon, it will also use part of the proceeds to renovate the Beau Vallon site, focusing mainly on the sporting areas.

Mr Delorie took the opportunity to thank Round Table Seychelles for such initiative.

“I would like to thank Round Table Seychelles as with this initiative they are giving Mr Regatta the same importance as Miss Regatta. I believe that the organisers of the Miss Seychelles ... Another World pageant should also consider giving Mr Seychelles the same importance as Miss Seychelles...,” he said.
