Why the SSPCA continues to promote pet sterilisation |22 August 2014

Pet “overpopulation” is a continuing problem that is faced not only in the Seychelles but throughout the world.  The two main contributing factors are:

•    Allowing pets to reproduce with little chance of finding caring homes for the offspring

•    Pets being abandoned by owners who can no longer keep them or want them.

Sterilising dogs and cats is considered the most effective method for pet “population” control.

Benefits of sterilising (neutering or spaying)

•    animals are calmer and more relaxed in their home territory

•     less inclined to wander and be involved in dog fights over a female “on heat”

•     become better guard dogs - alertness and protective instincts are not diminished

•    neutering a male kitten can eliminate the need for “spraying” or “urine marking”

•    cats become more affectionate.

Nearly 11,200 animals have been sterilised by the SSPCA, and we applaud their owners for their responsible decision.

Help eliminate the number of unwanted animals.  Spaying or neutering your pet is an important part of responsible pet ownership.

Phone SSPCA Office:  4611004 for an appointment.

Together…we can make a difference.
