Business community loses key player

The local business community has lost one of its key players in the name of K.D. Pillay, more commonly known as Deenu.
Mr Deenu passed away at the Victoria Hospital on Friday July 25 at the age of 76.

A self-made man of integrity, a philanthropic and a business entrepreneur who worked tirelessly and built a chain of successful business ventures including in real estate development, Mr Deenu also contributed largely to such social causes as founder of the Diabetic Society of Seychelles, founding chairman of the Hindu Kovil Sangham, founding member of Rajiv Gandhi Foundation-Seychelles Chapter and was an active member of the Seychelles Chamber of Commerce & Industry and of the Indo-Seychelles Friendship Association.

Mr Deenu migrated to Seychelles in 1958 at the young age of 18 years, from a small town in South India called Mayuram and was instrumental in setting up the now successful Chez Deenu group of companies.

Mr Deenu was well known and liked by both Seychellois and members of the Indian community here, as he had a very versatile and humorous personality, with an ever-smiling face.

He leaves behind his wife, Vasuki, his son Dr Murthy and daughter Sashi, and four grandchildren.
