Surprise gifts for Au Cap elderly |25 July 2014

Friends of Seychelles (Fos) officials on Saturday surprised the residents of the Au Cap home for the elderly with the exact extras they needed.

They descended on them with extra bed linen, towels, bed clothes including night dresses and underwear, T-shirts, plastic jugs, soup and some cookies.

The officials included a bottle of wine for each resident – courtesy of Seyvine – to the delight of the senior residents.

There were also two sets of walkers, and two sets of crutches, which the elderly do not seem to need now but will be kept for possible later use.

Member Lise Church said the local FoS bought the linen, bed clothes, towels, jugs and the friends of Seychelles in the US bought the crutches and the walking aids along with commodes, bringing the total value of the donation to $5,000 excluding the items which came from the US.
“We normally do this once a year, but it depends on if we get the opportunity,” she said.

Fos has 10 members locally but Mrs Church said they “would like to have some more to help”.
“We have brought a small gift for you. But after that we will not forget you. You will always stay in our hearts,” said Mrs Church.

“I will you give each a small basket and you will see what you are going to do with it. We have brought a bottle of wine for you to taste during your lunch time tomorrow with your lunch, to celebrate the Friends of Seychelles. Please pray for us so that we would always have the strength to help you all,” she said.

Association chairman Barry Laine said it was nice to see them all again.

“There is also something else we promised you, we are working on it, which is a grass-cutter.
“Yes we are working on that as soon as we come across one we will bring it to you,” he said.

The team also took time to visit one of the senior citizens – who was not feeling well – in her quarters.
