Seychelles maintains ‘high level’ of human development |25 July 2014

Seychelles maintains a 'high level' of human development and ranks 71st globally, according to the United Nations Development Programme’s Human Development Report.

The report, which was launched in Tokyo, Japan, is entitled ‘Sustaining Human Progress: Reducing Vulnerabilities and Enhancing Resilience’.

The global launch ceremony at the United Nations’ University Headquarters in Tokyo took place in the presence of the Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzō Abe, the UNDP’s Administrator Helen Clark, and the director of the Human Development Report Office, Khalid Malik.

The 2014 Human Development Report highlights the need for both promoting people’s choices and protecting human development achievements.

It takes the view that vulnerability threatens human development and, unless it is systematically addressed, progress will be neither equitable nor sustainable.
This year, the parameters and calculations to evaluate individual states have been altered.
