Holistic spa at Eden Island |17 April 2014

Imagine a small but all pamper paradise with every possible treatment for body, mind and soul: Hot bamboo or shell massage, body scrapping, manicure, pedicure, facial, eyebrow and eye lashing, foot rituals, waxing, vacuum or laser treatment, infrared sauna, bucket shower, hamm am, jacuzzi, and multiple therapies: Aroma, presso, colour light, soft laser, ultra sound…

One may be tempted to say that such a dream spot for massage-lovers or stressed minds in search of relaxation, prettification, fitness and even cure for some chronic diseases does not exist in Seychelles.

Well, it does as Sabine Hamma and her young but well trained all Seychellois team – save for an international trainer – have done it for you! German born, Mrs Hamma and her family have been in the spa business for the last seven years. They have operated in Germany and Ireland and have even at one time been distributors of spa equipment.

And the location could not have been more properly chosen: Eden Plaza on Eden Island. Your eyes could well be satisfied by the view from the terrace and the treatment rooms on the marina. Your mind could just be carried away by the luxury boats floating lazily on the blue sea with the verdant mountains of East Mahé as background and the relaxing combination of colours right in front of you – white, blue and green.

If you think that value could not be added to this natural décor, you are again underestimating the artistic taste and ability of Mrs Hamma and her staff. Before entering the southern end of the plaza where the spa is located, just hold your breath and feel the inviting atmosphere… From the first second, your respiration and heartbeat seem to have improved. As you push open the glass door to enter the reception area, you are welcomed by the relaxing sight and sound of clear water cascading down the wall. Though no treatment has been administered on you yet, you are immediately transported to another world, the effects of which are already totally relaxing.

At the entrance of the corridor connecting to the rooms, your senses are already revitalised by light and soft but splendid background music. One guest describes it as the way to paradise. Even if in a closed space and not yet in heaven, the interior of lightly but beautifully painted walls creating what some will paradoxically call ‘nude’ tones and on which hang appealing photographs overlooking sometimes unique furniture pieces, give the impression that you are on cloud nine. But the cloud you cosily travel on is far from being dark as the harmonious mixture of small colour lights create a dreamer’s dimness, the perfect balance between darkness and daylight. Where light seems missing, perfectly positioned and lovely mirrors just act like artificial suns.

A charming and beautiful massage therapist by the name of Kiera offers you the privilege of her company for a guided tour of the facilities. The names of the seven treatment rooms speak for themselves and summarise what awaits you: Fitness studio, Midas touch, Spirit temple, Eden suite, Lagoon, Pearl room, Crystal room.

Offering such a wide range of treatments, the ‘Eden Holistic Spa Seychelles’ replies perfectly to its name. The new spa was officially opened last Sunday evening by the principal secretary for Entrepreneurship Development and Business Innovation Marise Berlouis.

With the array of invitees present – ministers, judges, ambassadors, members of the National Assembly (MNAs), chief executives and other distinguished guests – the management had surely wanted to make of the event a memorable one.

Mrs Berlouis saluted the enthusiasm and spirit of the owners who have been living in Seychelles for the past seventeen years.

She said that the new investment is a show of confidence in the Eden Island project which has resulted in the creation of a modern and animated village.

With a combination of traditional medicine comprising of hundred percent natural and organic products and the application of modern techniques, the Holistic Spa Seychelles surely offers you the possibility to stay fresh, young and attractive and live a peaceful life.

You are particularly invited to discover, try and enjoy the positive effects of the 999 fine gold body oil and cream, the Tibetan singing bowl, the Himalayan pink salt aged two and a half million years and applied on a heated granite bed. Above all, make sure you do not miss the special powers of the magic pearl which is believed to be the secret to the extreme beauty, prolonged youth and longevity of Chinese empress Wu Ze Tian and Cleopatra the queen of Egypt.

Accompanying the article are some photographs taken by our photographer Louis Toussaint during the opening ceremony.
