James Michel celebrates 10 years leading Seychelles |14 April 2014

Today marks the 10th anniversary of Seychelles President James A. Michel’s rise to power, a period described by many as "a decade of successes".

Mr Michel first became President on April 14, 2004 when he took over the reign from his predecessor France Albert Rene who stepped down, handing control of Seychelles over to him. Mr Michel served out the remainder of Mr Rene’s term.

He won the Presidential elections held on July 28-30, 2006, taking 53.7% of the vote and was sworn in for his new term on August 1, 2006. Mr Michel was re-elected in May 2011, receiving 55.4% of the vote. He was sworn in for his second term of office on May 24, 2011.

To mark this milestone, an exhibition will be opened this morning followed by a book launch this evening.
