Seychelles Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (Socga) president Antonio Gopal launched the Olympic Solidarity coaching course at the local Olympic committee’s headquarters, Roche Caïman, yesterday morning in the presence of National Sports Council chief executive Alain Volcère, and Seychelles Athletics Federation (SAF) chairman Selby Dora.

Mr Dora had special thanks to the Ministry of Education for releasing the delegates, most of them physical education teachers based in various schools, to take part in the course.

He also said that the course is being implemented in line with the new National Sports Policy 2013-2017 and is aimed at the developing athletics in children at an early age.
The course is being run by Seychellois coaching instructor Giovanny Fanny and his Ugandan counterpart Innocent Asimwe.

This is the first international coaching course Mr Fanny is running and he was congratulated by Mr Gopal for his achievement.

Mr Asimwe pointed out that he was impressed at the number of female coaches at the launch ceremony and added he believes this is a good indication of the role of women in the development of sports.
He also urged the delegates to have maximum input in the course as it will benefit them a lot.

After the ceremony, Mr Dora told Sports Nation that the SAAF is working alongside the Ministry of Education to put in place a new structure by the start of 2014 to aid the development of athletics among school children and this course is the first step towards implementing this project.
