Tourists and residents to benefit from new mobile service

An example of the functionality pages of the new phone application

This will take place during a cocktail ceremony this evening at Le Méridien Barbarons hotel, also being held to celebrate the fourth edition of the Seychelles Leisure and Business guide.

The new phone application will feature general information about the destination including a business directory, a location service with Google maps, live weather forecasts, plus all the latest offers and tourism events.

This new, patented technology enables any application to be downloaded on all major smart phones on the market. It will work on such brands as iPhone, BlackBerry, HTC, Nokia, Samsung, Motorola and Sony Ericsson. It will also be available worldwide through different platforms such as the well-known Apple application store.

This is regarded as good news for Seychelles’ tourism businesses, which will have the chance to be part of this application and promote their products under two categories.

The business directory category will give information on existing businesses, be it a restaurant, hotel or other tourism service.

The page will include a short paragraph describing the business and will give contact details with direct links to their email address and website. Users can even look up the location of the business on the island map.

The tourism news and offers category will keep people informed on the events taking place in tourism, as well as on ongoing offers in restaurants and hotels.

The application will be of great benefit to our visitors as they can find their way around the islands simply by clicking on their phone to see where to find the best offers, or even how to get around to the best beaches.

The new application is very user-friendly; people merely have to download it on to their mobile phone, and from there they can use it anytime to find all the information they need.

Laurent Alis, creator of the Leisure and Business phone application, said visitors and local people will find this service very useful as information will be readily available on their phones.

This new service is now possible through a collaboration between Cable & Wireless and the Seychelles Tourism Board.
