Football-Yelvanny Rose bound for Vietnam |30 December 2004
Yelvanny, who made his debut for Seychelles in 2002 in a 1-0 home win over Eritrea in the first match of the African Nations' Cup 2004 qualifiers, left the country on Tuesday December 28 for a two-week trial.
Unable to win a second Land Marine Cup with Anse Réunion in three years, losing 0-1 to Red Star, Yelvanny’s trial in Vietnam has been made possible by Brazilian coach Walter Da Silva, who used to coach the La Digue side.
After parting company with Anse Réunion, Da Silva worked in South Africa before moving to Vietnam.
The burly striker, scorer of two goals for Seychelles against the Comoros in the third place play-off match for the bronze medal during last year's Sixth Indian Ocean Islands Games in Mauritius, told Sports Nation that “I’m ready to give my very best.”
“I want to play football at a higher level and make my hobby (playing football) my career. This is probably my best chance to realise the dream. I’m looking forward to train in Vietnam and hopefully my trial will be a successful one,” said Yelvanny.
Meanwhile, although it is certain that international striker Yelvanny will be on trial with a V-League team, the name of the side is not known.
According to Anse Réunion’s manager Charles Etienne, the team finished second behind champions Hong Anh-Gia Lai in the 12-team V-League.
The professional V-League, was launched in December 2000. Ten clubs competed in the first season and, a year later, two more were added to the competition.
