IOT donates fans to Perseverance primary school |30 May 2018

Pupils, teachers and other members of staff of Perseverance primary using the school’s assembly hall will soon feel more comfortable as the heat in the room will reduce considerably thanks to a donation of seven ceiling fans from the Indian Ocean Tuna Limited.

Four P6 pupils from the school accepted the fans from the general manager of the IOT, Nichol Elizabeth, during a special assembly yesterday morning.

Pupils from different classes recited poems, sang several songs all expressing their joy and gratitude for the great gesture on the part of the IOT.

Avilla Meriza, the early childhood coordinator, said the idea to seek support from companies and businesses in the community is part of the school’s effort to create a more comfortable and conducive environment for both pupils, teachers and other members of staff.

She went on to note that the school wanted to add something new to the school’s environment to coincide with its forthcoming fifth anniversary.

“We are really very grateful that the IOT, one of many companies on whose door we knocked, considered our need and responded positively with the donation of the fans,” Ms Meriza pointed out.

“The fans will contribute to the comfort of everyone who uses the assembly hall,” Ms Meriza stressed.

She expressed the school’s and the pupils’ heartfelt gratitude to the IOT for promptly acting on their request, which she described as “a great honour and privilege” for the school.

Mr Elizabeth told everyone present that the IOT is happy to make this small contribution towards the comfort of the pupils and staff of the school where many of the pupils are the children of several employees of the company which he is managing.

“Looking at you pupils all very excited gives me hope that one day we will have many of you taking up positions at the IOT and even replacing me in managing the factory. This gives us more reasons to bring our contribution towards improving your learning environment,” Mr Elizabeth pointed out.

He added that the IOT will continue to bring its contribution to the school in the future.

The fans, worth some R10,000, will be installed by electricians from the factory itself.

Two pupils -- Achille Anacoura and Ethan Bonnelame, on behalf of their fellow pupils, reiterated their school’s appreciation through a vote of thanks.
