Athletics: Seychelles Eco-Friendly marathon |05 January 2018

Interesting prizes to be won

The male and female winners of this year’s Seychelles Eco-Friendly marathon will receive R15,000 as first prize.

The race to be held at Beau Vallon on Sunday February 25, 2018, will see the involvement of both local and international athletes who will enjoy the surrounding beauty of the island as they ran along battling for the top spot.

Those who want to take part are being urged to register early as there will be limited places in some races.

The first Seychellois male and female in the marathon and half-marathon will also get the chance to compete in the 2018 Namseungryong Marathon in South Korea among other prizes.

The organisers are limiting the number of runners in the 5km and 10km races. A maximum of 1,500 athletes will be allowed to take part in the 5km race and priority will be given to the under-12 year olds and competitors falling in the masters category. Only 3,000 places are available for the 10km.

On Sunday February 25, runners of the 11th Seychelles Eco-Friendly Marathon doing the marathon and half-marathon will set off from Beau Vallon at 7am, covering northern and north eastern areas of the main island of Mahé, as well as its capital, Victoria. Those doing 5km and 10km will start at 7.30am.

Registration fees to be charged for foreigners are €60 for the marathon, €40 for half-marathon, €25 and €20 for the 10km and 5km races respectively.

As for locals, they will have to pay R400 for the marathon, R200 for half-marathon, R100 for 10km and R75 for 5km if they register between now and the end of January. But if they decide to register in February, the registration fees will increase ‒ R600 for the marathon, R300 for half-marathon, R200 for 10km and R100 for 5km

Seychellois school children will pay R25 for 5km and R50 for 10km if they register before the end of January, but the fees will double ‒ R50 for 5km and R100 for 10km ‒ for those who decide to register in February.

The deadline for registration is February 15, 2018. International runners can download registration forms from the official website of the Eco-Friendly marathon www.seychelles-marathon.com. The completed registration forms should be emailed to the race committee at the National Sports Council at highlevelsports@seychelles.sc or ceonsc@seychelles.net.

Local runners are advised to register in person at the National Sports Council.
