Plaisance primary school’s best pupils rewarded |09 December 2017
Primary six pupil Lutra Elizabeth is this year’s outstanding performer at the Plaisance school.
“I am happy to have won such prize. At the start of the year my goal was to make myself, my parents and teachers proud by listening to them and studying,” she said.
She won the prize during the school’s end-of-year awards ceremony organised to reward over 200 pupils on Thursday at the Palais des Sports, Roche Caïman.
Pupils have been rewarded for performing well, showing remarkable progress, improved behaviour and best efforts throughout the year.
Other pupils from P1 to P6 were also rewarded during the ceremony in Arts, Technology and Health & Physical Education.
Other prizes were awarded for best performer, best effort, best behaviour, best improved behaviour, best performer in maths and best performer in English.
Guests at the ceremony included the director of primary schools Cyril Pillay, the head teacher of Plaisance primary Therese Athanase, Parent Teacher Association chairperson Rodney Maria, teachers, parents and pupils.
Head teacher Athanase stated that pupils need to be rewarded for their achievements during a school year.
“Academic achievements are important to recognise. After all, pupils attend school primarily to learn new skills. Recognising the achievements that they have made in each area with curricular awards is a great way to foster confidence and promote good study habits. My goal is to make the school become one of the best academic schools in the country, but parents, teachers must all work together to make our school prosper,” she said.
Mr Pillay noted that the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development has been doing meeting, and sharing the results of the primary schools.
“The results of all primary schools are not good enough. Plaisance primary school has embarked on ways to bring good results. The pupils need to stay focused, determined to bring good results,” he said.
During the ceremony there were also poems, Christmas carol songs and traditional dance to entertain the audience.
The Plaisance primary school has some 1,000 pupils from crèche to P6 and next year about 150 of them will be proceeding to secondary one (S1).
