Takamaka primary school excels in maths and science quiz |11 September 2017
Chris Magnan from Takamaka primary school emerged as the best performer at the tenth finals of the annual maths and science quiz competition sponsored by Vijay Construction.
The competition took place on Friday at the Anse Boileau primary school.
The school also won first place with its team comprising Hope Nourrice, Alejandro Sanguignon, Haille Denis and best performer Chris Magnan.
Chris said he was excited to emerge as the best performer.
“I was not expecting to be the best performer among so many students. I am happy that I took part in this competition,” he said.
The winning team received a certificate, shield among other prizes.
The quiz has helped to familiarise the primary six students with the secondary school and identify topics in those subjects students have weaknesses in.
And this year only 16 primary schools took part in the competition.
The head of department for maths, Kunethra Verghese, said he is proud that the 16 schools took part this year, and that they have seen that many young pupils are good at maths.
“Maths is a subject that most students fear but we have many talented students who are doing wonderfully well in maths. Such competition will allow the students to develop an interest in this subject and discover the best primary school in maths,” he said.
Glacis primary school came out second in the competition while third place went to Anse Royale primary school.
The school also gave a token of appreciation to Vijay Construction for sponsoring the contest and the volunteer who helped out during the day.
