Centennial Women’s Lions Club donates to Au Cap primary school |31 January 2017

The Centennial Women’s Lions Club donated more than 30 educational kits to Au Cap primary school in a ceremony hosted at the school yesterday afternoon.

In attendance was the president of the Centennial Women’s Lions Club Dhana Sasikumar, the director of primary schools Cyril Pillay, the head teacher of Au Cap primary school Merna Albert, members of the club and the pupils and teachers of Au Cap primary.

The 37 educational kits in question consist of schoolbags and stationery of which Keshra Budhia and Laxmi Budhia, who were also in attendance, were the main sponsors.

Mrs Sasikumar said the club had approached the ministry of education, through its director for primary schools Mr Pillay, to pinpoint which school was in need of their help and Au Cap primary school was chosen.

In a speech before the handover of the donation, Mrs Sasikumar highlighted the club’s commitment to providing assistance to communities and thanked everyone who had facilitated the donation.

Pupils from different class levels graciously accepted some of the kits on behalf of the whole school after which a pupil, Henry Hoareau, relayed the vote of thanks in appreciation.

It will be the responsibility of the school’s administration to distribute the kits to the pupils as they see fit.

While expressing her gratitude for the donation, head teacher Merna Albert said the school will be giving the kits out to the less fortunate pupils by using the list of students who are already on the Ministry of Education’s dedicated fund.

“We will be urging our pupils to use these donations well because it will help them in their education,” she added.

It is to be recalled that since its inception in June 2016 the Centennial Women’s Lions Club has taken part in many charitable activities such as a fundraising fun walk held at Paradis des Enfants in October 2016 and in December the club made several donations of diapers to drug addicted pregnant mothers.
