Indian association adopts Anse Boileau primary school |13 May 2014

The Indian Association of Seychelles has officially adopted Anse Boileau primary school.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed yesterday at the school’s premises between head teacher Milena Richard and the chairperson of the association Vijay Patel.

The signing took place in the presence of the Minister for Education Macsuzy Mondon, principal secretary Merida Delcy, Member of the National Assembly for Anse Boileau Bernard Arnephy, district administrator Valcy Naiken, special advisor in the Department of Community Development Dan Frichot, teachers, parents  and students.

Head teacher Richard said it is evident that the Indian Association of Seychelles has the education of young Seychellois at heart because it has invested in educational projects which have enabled schools to improve its learning outcomes.

“Anse Boileau primary is the third school to benefit from this venture. The signing of this MoU today will therefore set the scope for us to work together to improve the quality of education which is our top priority and also that of our ministry,” said Ms Richard.

The two other schools adopted by the Indian Association of Seychelles are Port Glaud and Bel Ombre.
For his part, Mr Patel also described the occasion as a day of pleasure for both the school and the association because they are doing something for the education of the children of Seychelles.

Referring to a past speech of President Michel in which he said the country needs to have a knowledge-based society , Mr Patel said that in order to achieve this we need to study.
“We must get the good grades. Once we have the good grades we can progress,” Mr Patel told the gathering.

He said the association’s efforts need to have the support of a lot of people as only one person trying to do something cannot bring results.

“So we need a partnership and a partnership starts with the Ministry of Education. We are therefore very happy for the support of both the minister and her principal secretary, both of whom are witnessing the signing today,” said Mr Patel, adding that the support of the school, teachers and most importantly the parents are also needed.
He said parents have an important role to play by developing an interest in their children’s studies.

At the start of this year’s academic calendar, Minister Mondon called for greater ‘Collective Engagement towards Quality Education For All’ and it is in the same spirit that new partnerships in education are formed. Therefore with the start of the second term yesterday both the Ministry of Education and the Indian Association of Seychelles thought it an opportune day to formalise the adoption of the school, reinforcing their partnership as the first education activity to mark the new term.

Through this MoU, the Indian Association of Seychelles aims to facilitate numerous projects at the Anse Boileau primary school namely to improve its education facilities and buy educational materials. A sum of R250,000 will be placed at the school’s disposal for this purpose.

With this partnership the school will benefit greatly in being able to realise its projects and activities geared towards enhancing the pupils’ learning experience and provide a more conducive ad stimulating learning environment.

Marie Christine Ah-Kong, a pupil at Anse Boileau primary, thanked the association for this adoption which she said will help the quality of learning.
She said the children will make the most of the association’s offers.

There were gifts of school bags and clocks for the school from the association, tokens from the school to Minister Mondon and to Mr Patel.
A performance of traditional dances by the school children ended the ceremony.
